Research

My research experience comes from taking COMM 3165 (Evaluation and Usability Testing). Our project was focused on redesigning the touchscreen settings for Valve's handheld console, the Steam Deck. This gaming console plays games that are usually played on the computer. It has a touchscreen to use for menu navigation and it also works in the video games.

We determined that there were usability issues within the touchscreen settings that caused significant user complication. The Steam Deck has minimal touchscreen customization, and the few settings that exist are hidden in a sea of menus. Our team decided to compile these issues and conduct a survey for user feedback and an A/B test with two interactive (Figma) prototypes, including the redesign.

These tests were completed online and in-person, and we recruited our participants through connecting with gaming-related clubs on campus and finding participants. We found a total of 8 participants.

We used Qualtrics and UXTweak to perform A/B testing. Using the two prototypes, we provided tasks for the participants. UXTweak compiled completion data from the tests. We analyzed the outcomes using Jamovi.

Design

I am currently taking COMM 4511 (User Communication Design) at OSU. My group is currently working on redesigning the website of a local card shop business, The Soldiery.

After conducting an in-house usability analysis, we have started on the skeleton plane of the website and have completed wireframes for a new site design. We did different types of analysis, such as persona creation and competitor analysis.

We seek to address the issues on the current iteration of The Soldiery's website. This includes tweaking the hierarchy of different elements, reducing the amount of space some elements take, and reworking the online shop to be hosted on the same domain with reworks.

My current passion project of note is an app concept called cdtrac. It is a self-report music tracking app focused on sharing your CD listening history with friends and family. As an avid cd listener, I wanted to create the concept for an app that combines the experience of listening to physical media with connecting to people you love online. The full design of this experience is ongoing, but I have attached a photo of the homepage including designer annotations.
